Mount Pleasant, SC – This morning, Cook Political Report moved the race for South Carolina’s First District to a Toss Up, its second shift towards Rear Admiral Nancy Lacore this month. With Election Day just four days away, Cook now rates SC-01 among the most competitive districts in the country. Nancy continues to build momentum in the final sprint to Election Day, as her decades of nonpartisan service to our country and ability to connect with voters across party lines power a coalition capable of winning this seat.

Inside Elections also moved the race towards Nancy yesterday, noting that Republicans have rushed money into the race to bolster Honeycutt’s weak candidacy. Earlier this month, they wrote that “Lacore has outpaced [Honeycutt] in fundraising, and the political environment is only getting worse for the GOP.”

Today’s rating further underscores what Nancy is hearing from voters on the ground: South Carolina families are tired of Washington’s political games and ready for Nancy to put her decades of nonpartisan leadership to work cleaning up a Congress that’s lost sight of its mission to deliver for Americans. Nancy’s decades of nonpartisan service to this country and pragmatic approach to key issues facing her district have earned her bipartisan support from more than 40 local and national leaders and organizations. Last week, the campaign released its fourth television ad of the general election, featuring Mount Pleasant Mayor Will Haynie, a lifelong Republican who has endorsed Lacore's campaign for South Carolina's First Congressional District.

“With just four days until Election Day, I’m having conversations with voters across the Lowcountry who are fired up to vote this November. From living rooms to front porches, I hear a familiar message in every conversation: South Carolina families are hungry for change, and all they hear from Jenny Honeycutt is more of the same partisan games that are leaving the Lowcountry behind,” Lacore said. “Having served in the military for 35 years, I know how to lead people of all different backgrounds who may not vote like me, and I know how to deliver results. I think that is exactly what people are looking for right now. That’s why we’re building a campaign that is rooted in what brings us all together. I truly believe that with the right leaders, we can deliver a better future for South Carolina and rebuild trust in our government by delivering the country-first service our community deserves.”

Nancy Lacore served our nation for 35 years in the Navy, a career that began as a helicopter pilot and culminated as a three star admiral and the Chief of Navy Reserve where she was entrusted to lead more than 60,000 sailors. She spent her career juggling her military service with raising her six children, eventually moving from active duty to the Navy Reserve where she was deployed twice – to Afghanistan in 2011, and to Djibouti in 2017. When Pete Hegseth removed her from her post without explanation in 2025, she decided to continue her service to our country in Congress. A commitment to service, family, and country has shaped every chapter of Nancy’s life, and it continues to guide what comes next. Nancy wore the uniform for 35 years, but her dedication to this country and its people didn’t end when she took it off. In this next chapter, Nancy is ready to put her experience, her values, and her voice to work for every family in South Carolina’s First Congressional District.
