Mount Pleasant, SC – Tonight, Rear Admiral Nancy Lacore won South Carolina’s First Congressional District, one of the most-watched Congressional races this cycle. Lacore, who will be one of the first female flag officers to serve in the United States Congress and will have attained the highest military ranking of any member of the 120th Congress, issued the following statement:
“Thirty-five years ago, I took an oath to serve this country. Tonight, South Carolina’s First Congressional District gave me the honor of continuing that service. Over the course of this campaign, I've heard from parents struggling to make ends meet, young people who can't afford to buy their first home, seniors worried about healthcare, and families who are concerned about the future of this beautiful place we call home. I heard you. Your stories are coming with me to Washington.
“The Lowcountry doesn't need more political theater. You need a representative who will roll up their sleeves and get to work. So when I get there, I’ll work with anyone who’s serious about tackling these issues, cleaning up Congress, and giving South Carolina families a better future.
“To everyone who supported this campaign - the volunteers, campaign staff, and voters, thank you. And to those who didn't vote for me, I want you to know that I'll work just as hard for you. Tonight, the Lowcountry came together and proved that you don’t have to agree on everything to agree that Congress needs to change. Tomorrow, we get to work changing it.”
Nancy Lacore entered the race as a first-time candidate in a district President Trump won by 13 points in 2024, turning what was initially considered a long-shot Democratic pickup opportunity into one of the most competitive House races in the country. A retired three-star admiral who served 35 years in the Navy, Lacore built a bipartisan coalition around her record of nonpartisan service, independent leadership, and commitment to putting the Lowcountry ahead of party politics. Her campaign earned endorsements from more than 40 leaders and organizations, including Mount Pleasant’s Republican Mayor Will Haynie.
