MOUNT PLEASANT, SC — Today Rear Admiral Nancy Lacore announced State Representative Spencer Wetmore’s endorsement of her campaign in the Democratic Primary Runoff for South Carolina’s First Congressional District.
"I'm proud to endorse Nancy Lacore for Congress,” said Rep. Wetmore. “Not only does she have the federal leadership experience that the Lowcountry needs, she understands the importance of standing strong against the Trump administration. Just as importantly, Nancy has chosen to focus on the issues instead of attacking her opponent. In a time when politics is too often driven by division, Nancy is offering serious leadership and real solutions."
Wetmore’s endorsement follows that of Lacore’s former opponent for the First District, educator and community advocate Francina Dantzler. Dantzler was the third place finisher in Tuesday’s primary behind Lacore — who finished first with a commanding lead — and her runoff opponent. Both endorsements have been announced within 48 hours of polls closing on Primary night, signaling momentum for the Lacore campaign heading into the June 23 runoff election. Nancy is the only candidate left in this race with the ability to put together the resources and coalition necessary to flip this seat in November.
“It is an honor to receive Rep. Wetmore’s endorsement,” said Lacore. She is a proven leader in the State House who has a clear record of success. She was a strong voice in defeating the recent Trump redistricting push. I’m excited to have her on board!”
Lacore launched her campaign earlier this year and raised over $1 million within her first ten weeks on the trail. After 35 years of service in the United States Navy, a career beginning as a helicopter pilot and ending as a three-star Admiral and Chief of Navy Reserve, Lacore was removed from her post by Pete Hegseth with no explanation. She decided to continue her service to our country in Congress.
